Over the past two weeks we've been getting a small but steady stream of complaints about
Virgin Media's broadband ADSL products (formerly Virgin.net). Customers appear to be experiencing slow speeds and latency problems.
Sample quotes from this weeks complaints have been pasted below:
The speed is ABSOLUTELY NOT "really fast" as it stated, for example, the ping to any game servers in the afternoon and weekend will be more than 200ms. Gamers should avoid this ISP. Most of time, the download speed is around 200K-300K after 16:00.

I am on a
Virgin Media ADSL 8MB but it's always very slow. Most evenings ping times are 220ms or higher. Skype can be a nightmare to use at times. Bandwidth is very poor. I struggle most nights to get more than 1.5Mb at best even though my B.T BRAS profile is set at 4MB and my line sync is stable at 5Mb. I suspect their network is overloaded.
By - AndrewI have been using Virgin.Net (xdsl) services since Jan 2005. I was initially on the 512k speed that got increased to 1mb and 2mb respectively for free. That was superb service. Eventually when 8mb Max was available in my area, I got onto that one. The cost of service was 24.99 per month.
Then virgin.net took over NTL. That's when the degrade of speeds started happening. Eventually it has got so bad that my 56k backup dial-up modem is now faster then broadband during peak times. Complaining about this, I was told its a problem with BT. 2 months later is this still a problem with BT??? I think not.
Complained several times on there rather expensive tech support number (0906) and they could not resolve the issue except saying it might be a network fault in the area (though the status page of broadband connectivity continues to stay green).

Weve sent a quick mail over Virgins way and will post the response if and when it is returned.
