The director of global roaming giant iPass, Piero De Paoli, claims that next generation
Wi-Fi (802.11n) technology has yet to have any impact on broadband wireless Hotspots:
"
We are not getting companies asking when we will support it," De Paoli told
ZDNet.co.uk on Thursday. "
Hotspot providers are all using [the currently ubiquitous Wi-Fi standard] 802.11g. We haven't really seen 802.11n. We think it's a lot of hype."
The comments are hardly surprising given that 802.11n has yet to be ratified as an official standard by the IEEE, with existing hardware being based off preliminary 'Draft' 1 and 2 specifications.
However De Paoli did acknowledge to
ZDNet that 802.11n may become popular in the future, yet iPass is expected to ignore it until that actually happens.
