Cable giant VirginMedia has issued its latest third quarter 2007 results, highlighting a growth in broadband subscribers from 3,467,100 at the end of Q2 to 3,590,000 now. Most of the increase came from its cable broadband service (+115,800), while its ADSL based users managed a meagre addition of 7,100 subscribers.
The increases represent a significant turn around over the second quarter, which saw the operator add just 50,500 new broadband subscribers. Some updates regarding future and current broadband services were also issued:
We have completed our 20Mb broadband upgrade and have moved to the next stage of our 50Mb trial. We intend to increase broadband speeds in 2008 to significantly differentiate our offering from DSL. To that end, we are currently reviewing the implementation of DOCSIS 3.0 broadband standards.
