Bulldog & Wanadoo To Merge?

France Telecom (Wanadoo) has denied morning reports that suggested the operator might be preparing to invest £4bn in a takeover bid for Cable & Wireless (Bulldog):
France Telecom denied the report, with a spokesman describing it as "pure fantasy", and some observers have suggested that C&W could be looking to encourage takeover speculation. C&W's share price has risen over 20 percent since the start of May, which appears to suggest that a bid is likely.
Experienced readers will no doubt be aware that a denial in this industry offers about as much clarity as a brick wall.
However, with NTL and Telewest teaming up, a merger between C&W and FT seems more probable than ever before. More @ ZDNet.
