Global ISP AOL is preparing to jump on the free e-mail bandwagon with its own service, which is seen as a response to competition from the likes of Yahoo! and Google:
From today it's begun beta testing aim.com - its free web-based email service - available to all net users and not just those dwindling numbers of AOL subscribers.
Anyhow, the service is available via AOL's Instant Messenger (IM) service and includes a whole host of stuff such as spam and email virus protection and 2GB of online email storage.Typically aim.com is still home to AOL's IM software, although once out of beta the free e-mail service should feature much more prominently.
