Vicar Keith Kimber is aiming to bring more people to God by installing a broadband wireless (Wi-Fi) hotspot, which is supplied by BT Openzone, in his church:
The Rev Kimber, who already uses the latest technology to write his sermon on his laptop, now offers his congregation a quiet BT Openzone corner where they can send or receive emails or surf the internet.
The unique brainwave could be the answer to the prayers of many busy parishioners whose thoughts have drifted from the sermon to that pressing email or work presentation for Monday. The Rev Kimber is happy for them to quietly slip off to the BT Openzone area of St Johns in Cardiff city centre and take care of business on their laptop.
The vicar wants to make his church more relevant to the lives of many of his congregation. He already runs the churchs own website (cardiffcentralparish.org) where he publishes the times of services and details of forthcoming church events.
