ADSLGuide has pointed to several Sunday newspaper articles, which all hint at the possibility of telecoms giant Cable & Wireless (C&W) pulling out of the retail broadband market.
Heavy competition in the market is causing C&W a headache. It fears that this, coupled with the possibility of future saturation, would make
Bulldog a tough company to sustain in its present form.
Typically a lot of money has been spent on the ISP (brought for £18m + £173m invested) and C&W fears that it may not see a return on that investment. Sadly the market has been hampered by
LLU's initially slow pace and technical problems, although this has just recently started to improve.
Sources indicate that the decision is to be made soon, although there are fears that it could lead to
Bulldog being changed into a wholesaler or simply sold off. Still, one thing is sure whatever the outcome;
Bulldog is unlikely to receive further investment until it can make a return.
In the meantime customers will no doubt be concerned and hoping for some clarity in the near future.
