Dundee and Abertay University (Scotland) are playing host to a trial of solar powered lamp-posts, which aside from lighting up the night, will also be able to help cover the area with wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet access:
Six solar-powered internet-capable lights are to be installed on a rooftop at the University of Abertay, and up to 4,000 more will be used in a student village to be built for the University of Dundee.
The lamp-posts use LED technology to provide light using low-power solar cells which use daylight to recharge even in overcast weather.Scotland recently claimed victory after managing to enable all of its communities with 'affordable broadband' services. More @
