BT and Wi-Fi Hotspot operator The Cloud have signed a new deal to enable nine UK city centres with wireless broadband coverage:
500 BT payphones in Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Oxford, Cambridge and Liverpool, as well as in the London Boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea, Camden and Islington, are to be fitted with discrete WiFi boxes to create a "cloud" of coverage.
As part of the deal, both The Cloud and BT will share the revenue generated by these hotspots. The Cloud's network will be available immediately to punters who use BT Openzone, O2, SkypeZones and Nintendo WiFi.The Register notes that The Cloud is also looking to continue its expansion during 2006 by working with local councils to further improve coverage around the country.
