PlusNet has replaced its old webmail platform with a new one from SquirrelMail, which is the same platform used by their other ISP wing - Metronet. The news follows last weeks various SPAM and related webmail security problems:
Following the withdrawal of our Webmail service on Wednesday, we have been working around the clock to build a replacement platform for our customers. As announced previously, this temporary solution will be based upon the popular SquirrelMail Webmail software. We are already familiar with the SquirrelMail as it is in use by our Metronet customers.
We are fully confident that the platform is secure and we have been working closely with BT Security teams to make this so.
Some customers may notice that some email viewed via Webmail has a sent date of 1970. This is due to the senders' mail system creating a malformed mail header and is should not be of course for concern.
It's understood that SquirrelMail will only be a temporary solution while
Plusnet assess other options, which could take approximately 6 months.
