Much as reported on Monday (
here), today is the day Ofcom introduces its new broadband ADSL migration code (MAC) rules. It's feared that some providers will bend or even ignore the new rules, while the regulator is expected to take a softly-softly approach with any early problems.
Sadly fully unbundled (
LLU) providers (shared
LLU is covered) will be able to escape the initial introduction, yet this may only be for a limited period while work is done to rectify the situation. Typically users should be cautious over the first few weeks and make sure that Ofcom knows when an ISP isn't playing ball.
Information weve received suggests that Ofcom may set aside its initial softly-softly approach where certain suppliers and ISPs are concerned, specifically those that have caused obvious problems in the past. We will be keeping a close eye on things ourselves and report on any of the more interesting events, although today will probably remain relatively quiet.
