Satellite TV giant BSkyB has reported that its recently introduced broadband ADSL service has managed to gain 259,000 active subscribers. James Murdoch, Sky's head honcho, was only too keen to tout their success:
"At the end of our first full quarter as a broadband provider, benefits are starting to flow through the business. Sky Broadband is attracting new and existing customers with more than two-thirds opting for our faster, paid-for products."
It's worth noting that 343,000 have subscribed to the service, with the 259,000 figure representing "active" customers. In other words a staggering 84,000 people are still awaiting their connection! That's NOT good.
Sky is now targeting a figure of 700,000 broadband subscribers by the end of June this year, which appears to be a plausible target. How many of that figure will be "active" remains to be seen.
