UK ISP
Plusnet has this morning revealed details of its recently announced '
Broadband Your Way' packages. The new choices are named and structured in a similar way to the ISP's parent company (BT), with offerings titled from Option 1 to 4.
Every package offers ADSL speeds of 'up to' 8Mbps, a 1 month contract and FREE Overnight Usage (midnight to 8am downloading). FREE Routers and Wireless Routers can also be had when choosing to adopt a 12 month contract, otherwise the remaining details pan out as follows:
Option 1 - £9.99 Per Month
Usage Cap = 1GB
Online Gaming = Blocked
Option 2 - £14.99 Per Month
Usage Cap = 8GB
Online Gaming = Allowed
Option 3 - £19.99 Per Month
Usage Cap = 20GB
Online Gaming = Allowed
Option 4 - £29.99 Per Month
Usage Cap = 40GB
Online Gaming = Allowed
Every package also comes with a broadband Firewall, anti-spam and anti-virus filtering. Extra data usage is charged at 75p per GigaByte or £1 in arrears. The packages also include a broadband phone (voice) service, with Option 1 being purely pay-as-you-go and the rest offering free minutes.
Despite the monthly contract option, if you choose to leave within the first 12 months then you will still be charged the initially waived activation fee (£58.75). Those adopting the 12 month contract and doing the same will also have to re-pay the cost of
Plusnet's "FREE" hardware.
Each package includes a P2P/Usenet star rating (Option 1 = 1 star / Option 2 = 2 stars etc.), which references how
Plusnet will apply traffic management to each of the four packages. Despite referencing this as a P2P/Usenet restriction on the initial page, upon reading the details its clear that FTP, VPN and downloading in general can also be impacted (reduced speeds).
Its up to customers to decide whether the long awaited changes are worthwhile, although the packages are now a lot clearer about their restrictions, which we welcome.
