The little known Cambridgeshire-based rural broadband provider, Trilogy Telecom, has been snapped up by Edge Telecom after it went into administration during late August:
Financial details about the sale were not disclosed. However, in a statement Administrator Eric Stonham said the sale had been completed "without major disruption of service to customers", although one punter has contacted us to say that the service suffered a 72 hour outage that started last Saturday evening.
Stonham continued: "We quickly established that whilst the finances of the business were poor, the company's underlying service to its customers had a good foundation."
Trilogy received public money to unbundle exchanges in Cambridgeshire that were originally deemed commercially unviable by BT. However, a change of strategy led to BT investing in the area.It would appear as if the unexpected competition from BT put undue pressure on Trilogy, although it's unclear how Edge intends to avoid the same pitfall.
