AOL UK Offers "FREE" Broadband Laptop

Posted: 20th Jul, 2007 By: MarkJ
Our readers have spotted (here) that The Carphone Warehouse has begun offering new subscribers to AOL UK's broadband service a “FREE” laptop for £19.99 per month, somewhat copying Oranges promotion.

The package requires that customers sign-up for a heft 24 month contract, but unlike Orange, AOL's laptop is a slightly better spec DELL Inspiron:

- Vista Home Basic
- Minimum 1GB RAM
- 80GB Hard Drive
- Intel Celeron 540 Processor
- Wi-Fi Enabled
- 15.4" widescreen LCD
- 8 x DVD writer

Typically the up to 8Mbps broadband package comes with a 40GB data usage cap, free NetGear wireless router and free connection + some other extras. Sadly the offer is not available to existing AOL Broadband customers still in their minimum contract period. There's also a £14.99 delivery charge for the laptop.

Curiously the promotion makes no mention of whether the monthly offer price is based off AOL UK's unbundled line prices or applies equally to BT users too. Given the pricing it's more likely to be on the ISP’s unbundled service.
