Onyx ISP Launches Managed Wi-Fi

Posted: 09th Dec, 2004 By: MarkJ
ISP Onyx Internet has announced the launch of two new secure and managed Wi-Fi solutions for businesses and public locations (hotspots):

Onyx Internet is one of the first UK ISP to launch a secure and managed Wi-Fi solutions for businesses. Onyx Internet is offering tailored Wi-Fi solutions to enable a plug and surf secure Wi-Fi environment for business.

Neil Stephenson, sales and marketing director at Onyx Internet said: “This is amazing technology built on a centralised platform incorporating a complete web based service offering of billing, customer care and provisioning.

“We have been keen to launch a managed Wi-Fi service in the North East and beyond as it requires a reliable and fast broadband connection. We have already secured a significant contract to deliver at least 50 Wi-Fi hotspots on behalf of Newcastle.com, with a potential to expand this in 2005. This instantly secures Onyx Internet’s position on the Wi-Fi map and ensures that the North East leads the rest of the UK in making this new technology accessible to the masses.

“We see this as being a major opportunity for businesses across the region looking to add value to the services they provide. Right now the service is new and we will be officering two options for Wi-Fi with Public Zone, for hotels and high footfall locations and Guest Zone for any company wishing to offer managed wireless access to the Internet for employees and guests.
”

Public Zone provides hotels, coffee shops and restaurants with Wi-Fi for all their customers. This is a major added value as more laptops, notebooks and Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) which are standard WiFi enabled are now being purchased than desktop PCs, and laptops are fast becoming the lifeblood of business in the region. Site owners will be able to generate a new revenue stream from this new service.

Guest Zones is a flat fee service that gives businesses the opportunity to offer secure Wi-Fi access in their company for employees and any visitors. The incremental cost of this service is very small and the potential benefits in terms of flexibility and offering an improved service are enormous.
