The Telecommunications adjudicator, Peter Black, has released his latest monthly report on the status of UK local loop unbundling (
LLU) -
HERE. Some 471,000 lines have now been unhooked, although the weekly throughput is not stated.
Weaknesses in the delivery of Backhaul and Co-mingling PoPs from Openreach and BT Wholesale could impact the continuing growth of LLU. OTAs main focus is now in these areas as well as the delivery of the new systems. Special attention is being applied to the migration processes both To and From LLU.We've been keeping track of the statistics and noticed that, following a marginal increase between March and April, fewer
LLU lines were unbundled during May than the previous two months:
Jan'06 = 250,000
Feb'06 = 300,000 (+50k)
Mar'06 = 360,000 (+60k)
Apr'06 = 420,000 (+60k)
May'06 = 471,000 (+51k)
Official predictions expected the UK to finish 2006 with between 2 and 3m unbundled lines, although perhaps 1m is more realistic.
