The UK's largest cable operator, NTL, has reported its first combined results since merging with rival
Telewest. The provider added 191,700 new broadband subscribers during Q1-2006, taking the total (inc.
Telewest) to 2,821,700:
Broadband
We continue to experience strong growth in the number of broadband subscribers, with net additions of 191,400 in the quarter, compared to 191,700 in the previous quarter and 168,400 in the same quarter last year. Broadband penetration stands at 24.0% of our homes marketable and the outlook for growth remains strong.
As at the quarter end, Virgin.net had 193,200 broadband subscribers. Net additions in the quarter were 26,700 compared to 23,200 in the previous quarter and to 25,600 in the same quarter last year.Dialup (narrowband) subscribers typically dwindled, ending the quarter with 46,600 metered and 87,400 unmetered users (total: 134,000).
Curiously NTL's new results exclude its acquisition of Virgin.net subscribers, hence why the combined figure may appear to be roughly 200,000 lower than expected.
