Ofcom Predicts Broadband TV Growth

Posted: 18th Mar, 2006 By: MarkJ
DigitalSpy reports that Ofcom is predicting "significant" growth in broadband (Internet) TV services this year, mainly as a result of cheaper LLU, greater coverage and faster speeds:

Among the companies planning to enter the DSL TV market in some form during 2006 are BT (via a box delivering both DTT and IPTV services) and Sky (offering VOD and interactive services using the access it now has through the recently-acquired Easynet).

"The availability of additional TV content via broadband will give large numbers of consumers the opportunity to equip their TVs with these new hybrid broadcast and broadband devices," concluded Ofcom.

Unfortunately many people are still unable to receive speeds above 1Mbps, while data usage capping among ISP’s threatens to restrict accessibility. The path may be visible, yet the road is anything but safe.
