Swansea based ntl:
Telewest broadband customers are being used as guinea pigs to trial the providers new automatic speed reduction technology, which is targeted at heavy users:
Heavy users who have been hammering their connection thoughout the day will have their speeds cut to 5Mbits between 4:00pm and midnight, after which the speed is reset.
To make matters worse, ntl:
Telewest do not clearly outline what they consider to be "
Acceptable Usage", a common fault with many ISP's.
Cable Forum goes on to report that the ISP will not even confirm whether a user has had their service restricted unless they "
directly ask if they are being traffic shaped". Curious.
