186k Gobbles Rival ISP EFH Broadband

Posted: 13th Dec, 2006 By: MarkJ
ISP 186k, which has acquired an impressive number of smaller providers over the past couple of years, has now gobbled up another - EFH Broadband. It’s believed that they intend to make EFH their new “consumer flagship brand”:

The acquisition, which includes all associated brand properties and a rapidly growing customer base, will give the company another established leading brand providing premium broadband services..

Commenting on the acquisition, Dominic Marrocco, owner of 186k Limited, said: “EFH has built up a service that has an impressive track record, providing reliable broadband and customer services to many thousands of end users.

“We intend to build upon that reputation by integrating their current offering with our enhanced value added services* to deliver an unequalled package for both residential and business users.
”

186k plans to maximise the visibility of the brand and continue to build upon the solid foundations set by EFH. “I believe that our enhanced service offerings, competitive pricing and stability will give both current and future users good reliability in a sector that is highly competitive,” continued Marrocco.

The acquisition will be completely seamless and won’t require current users to do anything to continue their service.

Duncan Pollard, Director at EFH Broadband, said: “When we began the process to move our brand and users to another company, we wanted to be sure that our customers were going to be in good hands. To this end, we evaluated many would-be suitors, but none could match the stability and good business ethics demonstrated by 186k.

“Further to this acquisition, I’m delighted that 186k has asked us to assist with the customer integration process, so that we can provide a reassuring message to all of our valued users, that this move will prove to be good for everyone involved.
”

186k has grown rapidly over the last couple of years, thanks to an aggressive acquisition strategy and an initial investment of over £20m. Internet entrepreneur Dominic Marrocco, is moving towards greater consolidation in the ISP market. Recent strategic acquisitions made by Marrocco include InVADE, the telephony software solutions provider and Mailbox Internet, the highly respected B2B ISP.

Unfortunately 186k has recently taken some flak through its relationship with the NetServices / Biscit dispute as owners of EzeeDSL, although as the above news will attest, that is unlikely to hinder their growth.

Connecting yourself too closely with so many failed ISP's (E7even, Fast24 etc.) can sometimes be a bad idea. It will be interesting to see how things evolve through 2007 and onwards.
