BT has released its latest quarterly results (
here) to 30th June 2008, which revealed that the operator had managed to rack up 4.5m retail broadband (BT Total Broadband,
PlusNet etc.) customers, which compares with 4.4m in the previous quarter:
We had 13.0 million wholesale broadband connections (DSL and
LLU) at June 30, 2008, including 4.8 million local loop unbundled lines. This represents an increase of 1.8 million wholesale broadband connections year on year. There were 338,000 net additional broadband connections in the quarter. Our retail share of those net additions was 103,000, being 31%, and we remain the UKs number one retail broadband provider with a customer base of 4.5 million at June 30, 2008, which represents a market share of 35%.
BT's Internet TV (IPTV) service, BT Vision, has also managed to attract 282,000 customers, an increase of 68,000 net additions in the quarter. Likewise BT's wireless community (Fon) product, which allows consumers and businesses to share their broadband connections with others over
Wi-Fi, has a total of 121,000 members.
