H2O Networks, which selected Bournemouth to become the UK's first Fibrecity during May (
news), has reportedly begun requesting permission from local residents to begin installing their 'up to' 100Mbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband service in the area.
The
ICM item states that all homes and businesses within the Bournemouth Borough Boundary will shortly receive letters asking them to grant permission for a free connection. H2O will then use Bournemouth's network of underground sewers to deploy its fibre optic cabling.
However, the work itself is not scheduled to start until September, as per the original announcement. The entire project will cost in the region of £30m and ultimately connect 88,000 homes.
