Fasthosts, a well known website hosting provider and broadband ISP, is to cull its UK customer service staff in favour of a cheaper outsourced alternative from Romania and the Phillipines:
Up to 38 posts are set to go at Fasthosts' Gloucester HQ as a result. In a statement to
The Register today, the firm said the "
regrettable" job losses "
will further improve customer experience" and enable it "
to better serve its hundreds of thousands of customers".
"
The company continues to operate at its state of the art facilities in Gloucester, and does not envisage moving any other operational functions overseas," Fasthosts said.
We can't recall any such movements by other ISPs resulting in an improved customer experience, though there could always be a first time. Then again, Fasthosts has a shaky history of support quality and we speak from firsthand experience.
Certainly one thing the hosting giant could do is to update its ancient broadband ADSL packages, which still promote a range of older services going up to only 2Mbps for £29.99 per month.
