FibreSpeed Statement
North Midland Construction (NMC), one of the main contractors employed on the FibreSpeed project by Geo, is taking action to determine the cause of the dispute surrounding the alleged non-payment of sub-contractors involved in the project.
Mike Garratt, Finance Director of North Midland Construction commented A number of disputes have arisen between our sub-contractors engaged on the FibreSpeed project. To help them resolve their various issues, weve set up a dispute resolution meeting next Tuesday afternoon (24 February).
We have confirmed attendance from the principal parties to the dispute. We hope that they can resolve this issue with our assistance. We are also in the process of implementing measures that will avoid situations like this arising again.
Mike Ainger, Chief Operating Officer at Geo, the company responsible for managing the build of the FibreSpeed network, commented: Geo has worked successfully with NMC for a number of years, we fully support NMCs initiative of embarking on a structured process to address the various issues.
The sub-contractors alleged that a Manchester-based firm known as United Formwork had not paid them for their work, with some waiting upon payments worth in the region of £250,000.
