Thinkbroadband reports that a financial and legal dispute between
186k and their supplier
Tiscali UK has resulted in some broadband ADSL customers being disconnected. 186k is owned by Dominic Marrocco and supplies several vISPs, including EzeeDSL, Mailbox Internet and EFH Broadband.
Tiscali has since confirmed that its Wholesale Broadband Agreement with 186k was terminated over the dispute, leaving an unknown number of customers without broadband.
Tiscali has recommended that those affected contact 186k to gain their migration code (MAC).
Typically 186k has issued a statement of its own, noting that the problem only affects a small percentage of its users as most are already on their
BT platform:
186k Statement: "
Last year Tiscali acquired several thousand users from 186k that resided on Tiscali and are in the process of purging those users who have not migrated fully over to them, in a statement from Tiscali to 186k they claim to be unable to separate those users that were acquired from the other small amount of users that 186k still had placed on legacy contracts with Tiscali.
We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused our customers and believe that Tiscali have not acted in the best interests of end users. 186k are in the process of migrating users to BT Wholesale's network where the bulk of its users are serviced and are providing MAC codes for those who request them. Users are able to access the internet prior to migration by entering a temporary username and password available from their reseller."
Regular readers will no doubt be able to recall that 186k was heavily involved in a lot of smaller ISP acquisitions some years back, although we've barely heard a peep out of them since 2007. The current trading environment for smaller providers is also incredibly difficult. Customers affected should contact their supplier 186k ASAP.
