Ofcom has released its latest quarterly (Q3-2008) Telecommunications Market Data Tables (
here), which includes a breakdown of total small business and residential broadband connections. Interestingly Q3 saw
BT Retail's market share drop slightly from 26.5% to 26.4%; it had previously been stable for three consecutive quarters. The figures break down as follows:
BT Retail DSL (ADSL) - 4,464,000
Other DSL (exc. LLU) - 3,714,000
Virgin Media (Cable) - 3,626,000
Other inc. (LLU DSL) - 5,120,000
Interestingly nearly every land-line broadband type made gains during the third quarter, especially cheaper unbundled (
LLU) providers such as Sky and
O2 (
Be Broadband). However
BT based ISPs (Other DSL [exc.
LLU]) continued to decline, losing 132,000 broadband connections.
