New housing developments in Wembley City are celebrating the ability to receive speeds of up to 100Mbps over Velocity1's (PacketFront, Industria) Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network. Velocity1 is a triple-play TV, telephony and broadband ISP that is jointly-owned by UK property developer Quintain Estates & Development plc:
James Saunders, a managing director at Quintain, told the
Wembly and Kingsbury Times: "
We can install everything at once and enable the service straight away, so people do not have to wait for a satellite dish to be installed or take time off work for a BT engineer to come round.
We've also taken away line rental because it doesn't use conventional phone lines."
The service itself offers residents a choice of guaranteed speeds from 8 to 100Mbps. Residents are able to buy bundles of 8Mb, 16Mb and 32Mb. For a 30 minute 100Mb boost residents would pay £1.
That may seem quite costly but is perhaps less so when you consider just how much raw data a 100Mbps connection can transfer in 30mins. Plans are already afoot to extend the service to other locations around the UK, although it might take a few years.
