Orange UK has today begun trials of a new up to 20Mbps (ADSL2+) broadband service. The package will initially only be available to a select group of
Orange's existing 8Mbps Home Broadband customers via the ISPs fixed broadband network:
Speaking on the announcement, Asif Aziz, Director of Broadband and Home,
Orange UK said: "
This trial is an important step in enabling us to offer up to 20 Meg home broadband to consumers across our network. It is also testament to our ongoing commitment to evolve our fixed broadband service and ensure we offer customers a truly reliable user experience."
Those users within the trials coverage will be able to regrade (upgrade) their service all for the same price as their current 8Mbps package. Those participating will also be supported by a specialised support team and a new information microsite.
Presently
Orange has not offered a time table for the final product launch, although the spring to summer period would be a fair bet. Recent statistics showed that
Orange's broadband subscriber base was continuing to decline, albeit at a significantly slower rate (
news).
