Virgin Media has come top of
broadband.co.uk's anecdotal September 2008 speedtest results with a 6.13Mbps average download rate, pushing rival
O2 (
Be Broadband) into second place with 5.32Mbps.
O2 (
Be Broadband) had previously held the top position for a full year, a situation often mirrored by other speedtesters. Eclipse Broadband again trailed in last place with an average download speed of only 1.892Mbps, which is a great improvement over its 1.490Mbps average last month:

The average over all tests was a download speed of 3.539Mbps, which has remained more or less level for a few months now; the average upload performance was 0.379Mbps. It's worth noting that
O2 (
Be Broadband) did still manage to come top for upload performance with 0.807Mbps. Sadly quality smaller ISPs, such as IDNet and
Zen Internet, are often excluded from the results due to their size.
