FON, the service that allows broadband users to share their connection out with others, is offering £5 off its new FONSpot router to help beat the credit-crunch blues this Christmas - available until 30th November for just £24.99 at Dabs.

The 2-port edition of FON’s Fonera Wi-Fi router, the FONSpot, gives anybody with a broadband connection the ability to share their Internet connection “securely” with the FON community and in return roam on all 400,000 hotspots around the world for free:


The FONSpot also gives access to the BT FON network - BT Home Hub routers whose owners have already opted to join the 120,000 strong FON community in the UK. If you have a FONSpot you will gain 120 minutes of free access to BT Openzone’s 3,000 premium hotspots in airports, hotels, cafes and other public areas across the UK.

However before considering the FON network it’s important to make sure that your ISP will allow its use. More than a few include clauses to restrict such sharing since this would raise your data consumption and could potentially become a security risk. Likewise issues surrounding shared networks and illegal downloads could be another concern.
