Town criers from around Somerset gathered in Taunton town centre yesterday to celebrate the countys growing broadband prominence, which BT recently heralded as having the highest take-up of high-speed Internet access.
It's a far cry from three years ago, reports the
Somerset County Gazette, when the area was judged to be the worst connected county in the South-West:
With funding provided by the South-West Regional Development Agency, Somerset County Council, Business Link and the European Commission, the programme has encouraged widespread adoption of broadband communications, with 47% of the county's businesses and homes now on-line.
