Security group SoftScan reports that junk e-mail (SPAM) continued to account for a staggering 96.63% of all messages during March 2008. The figure shows barely any change over December 2007, which touched slightly higher on 97.02%.
Sadly it's extremely difficult to know precisely how much mail is junk due to the significant differences between reports. For example, MessageLabs recently reported junk e-mail as accounting for 73.8% of all mail, which is a far cry from 96.63%.
Virus levels remained typically low during the month, accounting for just 0.07% of all email scanned, which compares with 0.11% during December 2007. Ironically MessageLabs reported a higher figure of 0.59% for March.
