Sophos reports that the global proportion of UK websites containing malicious software (malware) has shrunk from 3% during Q1-2007 to just 1.1% in Q1-2008. Unfortunately the global outlook isn't so positive, with Sophos blocking one new infected webpage every 5 seconds, compared with one every 14 seconds last year.
The US in particular has experienced unprecedented growth, from hosting less than 25% of all infected pages overall in 2007, to 42% in 2008. The top ten countries hosting web-based malware in Q1-2008 were as follows:
- United States 42.0%
- China 30.1%
- Russia 10.3%
- Germany 2.2%
- Ukraine 1.7%
- Turkey 1.6%
- United Kingdom 1.1%
- Thailand 1.0%
- Czech Republic 0.9%
- Canada 0.7%
