UK mobile phone operator Three (3) has teamed up with insurance provider Lifestyle Services Group (LSG) to offer '
Mobile Broadband' customers the ability to insure their modems. The cost of £3.49 per month could make it a hard sell, but what do you get for that?:
The insurance sales will be handled by 3 and its sub-contracted agents. Policy administration, claims handling and fulfilment are provided by LSG. 3Cover aims for 48-hour replacement (following claim acceptance) and cover against:
- Loss
- Theft*
- Accidental or Malicious Damage
- Water or Liquid Damage
- Electrical or Mechanical Breakdown
* Excluding theft of airtime
It's worth pointing out that the USB Mobile Broadband Modem dongle from Three (3) costs between £0 (free on 18 month contracts) and £99 for a pay-as-you-go option, yet third party replacement HSPA (3.5G) USB modems can be up to £150.
