BT Releases 868 ADSL2+ (21CN) Exchange Activation Dates

Posted: 30th Mar, 2008 By: MarkJ
Samknows reports that BT Wholesale has issued the first 868 telephone exchange activation dates for its new Wholesale Broadband Connect (WBC) product. This is a critical part of the operators 21st Century Network (21CN) plan and allows 'up to' 24Mbps ADSL2+ broadband connections to be offered.

BT has already activated 39 of the exchanges as part of its initials trials, although it will take until 2012 to complete a total nationwide rollout:

As promised by BT, there will be 82 exchanges live when WBC launches on 30 April, followed by 540 exchanges by 18 November 2008 and finally 868 by 19 May 2009. A map depicting the spread of the roll out can be found here. The final figure of 868 correlates almost precisely with the figure of 869 that BT published at the start of the year. Therefore it would seem that this is the complete roll out until May 2009.

BT is expected to finalise its WBC pricing over the next couple of weeks, which is likely to be followed by several UK ISPs revealing new ADSL2+ based packages and prices.
