Lixxus Launches PAYG Broadband

Posted: 26th Jul, 2004 By: MarkJ
Lixxus has today launched what is claimed to be the "UK’s first truly pay as you go broadband service". The ISP states that, outside of the initial installation cost, you will only ever pay for what you use and nothing more:

Lixxus launches the UK’s first truly pay as you go broadband service

Lixxus, the new generation broadband ISP, today launches the UK’s first truly pay-as-you-go (PAYGo) broadband package for the consumer with a business grade product to follow later in the year. Broadband is the fastest growing sector in the industry and Lixxus is offering the consumer an entirely unique and cost effective way to buy broadband services.

Unlike competitors such as BT and AOL, Lixxus offers consumers a truly PAYGo package starting with a zero rate monthly subscription charge for both their 512K and 1MB packages. With Lixxus, once the customer has paid the one off installation fee, they are charged simply for what they use and that’s it! And if that isn’t enough customers need only commit to one month unlike the standard 12 month contracts offered by many ISPs.

What are the benefits?

• Pure usage based charging – you only pay for how much you use, not for how long you’re online
• No commitment – one month minimum contract instead of 12
• Cheaper monthly bills
• Choice of up to 512Kbps or 1028Kbps services at the same low price

Lixxus was formed with two fundamental aims – to provide exemplary customer service and to offer a cost effective alternative to other broadband suppliers. “Too many ISPs have become Jacks of all trades and have ended up masters of none, offering a variety of services and yet not giving the consumer what they need – reliable service at a competitive price. Lixxus wants to specialise in broadband and do what we do best, which is offering just that. Too many companies are let down by hollow promises,” commented Joe Kelly, Managing Director and co-founder of Lixxus.

Lixxus offers standard and bonded xDSL (ADSL and SDSL), at speeds in excess of 2Mbps, allowing the end user the speed and flexibility of a leased line circuit without the crippling cost. Joe Kelly sees the move to a true PAYGo service as, “A defining moment in the development of high speed connectivity”.

Lixxus is a true specialist broadband provider, with a team that know the products inside out. We offer a range of services including SDSL with 24/7 monitoring and ISDN backup, see our website at http://www.lixxus.co.uk for further details.

The press release lacks more detailed pricing and service information, although we did note that the 512Kbps service is capped at a maximum cost of just £25 +vat per month (1Mbps = £35 +vat).

A quick bit of research suggests that the actual PAYG aspect doesn't even factor in unless you use less than 150mb per day (very rough estimate). Using just 30mb per day (average) would cause the monthly cost to be around £16.
