Telewests Student BB/Phone Offer

Cable operator and ISP Telewest has today announced the launch of a new broadband Internet access and telephony (voice) product aimed at university students:

Students to jump on the broad-bandwagon

With many cash-strapped and budget-conscious students heading off to university this Autumn, cable company, Telewest Broadband is to give students a helping hand with the launch of a new telephone and broadband internet package.

The tailored student pack combines an unlimited phone service with a blueyonder broadband internet connection and is perfect for student households who don't want the worry of racking up a huge phone bill each month.

And because students are only around from September to May, the pack comes with a nine month minimum contract period, rather than the standard twelve months.

Student households will have the option of taking either Talk Evenings and Weekends, which offers unlimited UK local and national calls in the evenings and at weekends for £16.50 a month, or Talk Unlimited, which offers unlimited UK calls 24/7 for £25.50 a month. Customers can then add their choice of blueyonder broadband internet service, starting from £25 a month.

For a four-person household signing up to Talk Evenings and Weekends and blueyonder broadband 750k it would cost less than £10.50 a month each - the equivalent of just five pints of beer!

Caroline Sloan, an archaeology student from London, said: "When you're sharing a house, it's always difficult to keep track of how much time you're spending on the phone and arguments are inevitable when the bill drops through the letterbox.

"An unlimited phone package will put a stop to this in our house next year and make it so much simpler to budget. Having a broadband internet service is also an added bonus. The always-on connection means the phone line isn't tied up and the faster speed means research, downloading my favourite music or keeping in touch with my mates at other unis will be much easier."

Eric Tveter, president and chief operating office at Telewest Broadband, said: "Your university years are the best of your life and when you're trying to juggle the heavy workload on a skeletal budget, the last thing you want to worry about is a huge phone bill every month.

"Our new package will enable students to budget throughout the year whilst giving them a great value for money telephone and internet service."
