Kingston Acquires ISP Eclipse Internet

Posted: 30th Sep, 2004 By: MarkJ
First Virgin, then Clara and now the latest big ISP acquisition is by operator Kingston Communications, which has nabbed rival ISP Eclipse Internet:

Eclipse Internet is pleased to announce that it has today joined the Kingston Group - a move which will ensure the continued development of the successful Eclipse Internet brand. Kingston Communications has a proud history of pioneering new technology and forward thinking in the voice, data, Internet and mobile connectivity markets. This coupled with Eclipse's unrivalled reputation for quality, its innovative culture, and vast experience in the broadband market, is seen as an exciting marriage of capabilities.

The existing Eclipse Internet team will continue to play an important role in the company in order to drive the business forward. Eclipse's founder and Managing Director, Mark Lang, will be taking the position of Head of Broadband and ISP Development and the company's headquarters will remain based in Exeter.

Commenting on the acquisition, Mark Lang said: "I am committed to the future of the Eclipse, its customers and its employees. By joining the Kingston Group, Eclipse will significantly strengthen its competitive position and achieve long term performance by continuing to create superior customer value and satisfaction in what is an increasingly aggressive market. The development means that we can maintain our tradition of innovation and provide an increasingly rich portfolio of first class services to our loyal customers in the future. This excellent opportunity will ensure long term security and ongoing success."

The acquisition is part of Kingston's strategy to accelerate the growth in its broadband business. The integration of Eclipse Internet significantly deepens its expertise in the fast growing broadband Internet market. Following the acquisition the Group will have a broadband customer base of over 55,000 connections.

Malcolm Fallen, Chief Executive of Kingston Communications, said of the news: "The acquisition of Eclipse Internet provides an exciting opportunity for Kingston. The business has an unrivalled reputation in the broadband market place, offering a high quality service to its customers. In joining the Kingston Group, Eclipse Internet significantly enhances both the scale and depth of our existing Internet offering and will accelerate our position in the provision of a range of broadband Internet related services across the UK."

Consolidation is currently playing a big part in the UK ISP marketplace and will probably continue for awhile yet, although very few truly independent providers remain.
