UK ISP
BTOpenworld has today announced the avalibility of a new '
Internet Security Pack' from their website. This follows the ISPs latest research, which estimates that 23% of UK SMEs are still failing to secure themselves:
SECURITY IGNORANCE IS BLISS TO UK SMALL BUSINESSES
Almost a quarter (23 per cent) of UK SMEs are still failing to protect their websites, according to research by BT Openworld. This is despite the fact that more than 611 new viruses, worms and Trojan horses were detected during the month of May alone.
In response to these findings, BT Openworld has launched the Internet Security Pack. Designed with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in mind, the Internet Security Pack provides advanced security protection from viruses and network intruders. It is available at less than £5 per month.
The solution includes the McAfee VirusScan ASaP security offering which protects against internet-borne viruses and is automatically updated to ensure round-the-clock protection. In addition, firewall technology from Internet Security Systems (ISS) guards against hackers and destructive computer programs.
To coincide with the launch of the Internet Security Pack, BT Openworld has also published an A-Z guide to security terms and acronyms. Entitled 'Cracking the code - a guide to IT security', it aims to help SMEs overcome the security hazards they face and ensure they are protected against attack.
As well as explaining terms such as 'virus' and 'Trojan horse', the A-Z guide talks users through issues such as authentication and backup and provides advice on how to prevent security breaches.
Neville Manuel, vice-president of value-added services at BT Openworld, said: "The majority of UK businesses know in theory that having comprehensive security software in place is critical. Yet we continuously read about companies losing millions or going bust due to a security breach.
The Internet Security Pack has been designed to provide peace-of-mind protection for SMEs. World-leading technology and automatic updates mean that IT security is kept up-to-date leaving users to focus on what they do best - running their business," he added.
The Internet Security Pack is available to BT Openworld broadband and dial-up customers and can be purchased online from HERE. It is available on a subscription basis and costs £3.49 per month
(excluding VAT). To receive a free copy of 'Cracking the code - a guide to IT security', please email Ciaran Nelson at ciarann@octanepr.com or go to
