Many UK ADSL providing ISPs are still reluctant to fully support BTs migration service, which allows for a quick and easy service transition between different ISPs. Today
The Scream has bitten into Tiscali as a prime example of this:
The story stems from the fact that switching between UK ADSL providers in the UK can easily be achieved using a CBUK number which most ISPs will give to their customer to allow them to change ISPs.
Tiscali's position (from calling their customer support and also their postings on Tiscali's public support forums) is to make customers cancel Tiscali ADSL and then get another ISP to re-supply.
This introduces a delay of upto 2 weeks where a consumer would be without an ADSL connection while BT has to remove then replace the ADSL on a consumer's line.Tiscali's official response to this is as follows:
We don't however supply your CBUK, because we have BT clear the line completely, so if you where to go to another ISP they would not need a CBUK cause your line would be free from BB.We can't help but wonder how many UK ISPs actually support BTs migration methods?
