Online multimedia streaming services, such as those used to transmit video and music, are predicted to see a 40% growth during 2003. Unsurprisingly the rise of commercial broadband services has helped:
AccuStream estimates that the number of video streams accessed this year could top 6 billion, with music, news and film content expected to grow at the highest rate year-on-year until 2005. With sports leagues and brands often attaching themselves to premium services aimed at the broadband market, uptake of sports streaming video remains something of a wildcard and may register only single-digit growth this year.
Though pay broadband streams have been on the increase, AccuStream postulates that a recovering ad market could tip that two-year trend back toward more sponsored, ad-supported or distributor subsidised content.More @
