UK ISP FairADSL has changed its name to
FairBroadband and increased the cost of its 'home user' ADSL package from £18.99 to £19.99 per month. The hike is put down to changes in the tax law:
At the start of July, Customs and Excise implemented new VAT laws that meant suppliers of e-services from outside the EU would have to pay Value Add Tax (VAT) at the rate due in an EU customer's country.
FairBroadband's parent company Fair Communications was based in the US until recently. "We regret that we have to raise prices at all, but new tax laws mean we can't afford to continue offering customers these absurdly low prices. We will have to raise our prices at the end of the month," says Kevin Peel, technical director of FairBroadband.More @
