The construction company Laing O'Rourke has stated its intention to build broadband wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) infrastructure directly into new buildings:
The company is embarking on an extensive programme that includes equipping staff and offices with Intel Centrino-based technology to improve communications and boost efficiency.
Mobile computers and wireless hotspots from BT will ensure that on-site staff have access to up-to-date information.
And the builder is considering the option of leaving the hotspots for its clients to use when the buildings are complete.Sadly the initiative is small in the context of the whole country, although it could be the catalyst for more construction companies to follow.
