Installing a broadband ADSL connection has saved the UK wing of sports equipment retailer 'American Golf Discount Centre' roughly £30,000 per year:
The company's legacy network spans 56 stores across the UK and Ireland and is used for data transfer, dial-in support and remote control of in-store machines such as electronic point of sale (Epos) systems.
Installing high-speed ADSL links will cut phone costs and help move the business from fax-based to electronic communication, says American Golf IT manager Jim Franklin.
'We spend about £7000 a year just on faxing paperwork between stores and head office. With the internet infrastructure in place we can have online forms and documents sent electronically. The new network will save us about £30,000 a year and will pay for itself in around two years,' said Franklin. The
VNUNet item notes that the store had originally been using a slower and more expensive (don't I know it!) ISDN setup.
