SurfAnyTime Falls Out With Affinity/VD

Customers of UK ISP SurfAnyTime (SAT) have informed us of the groups rather stark service update, which among other things, lays into Affinity and or Vital Data for failing to follow up a legal promise related to user migration:
You may or may not know that SurfAnytime have no longer any binding agreement with Affinity Internet Holdings Ltd.
We believe Affinity or the new provider, Vital Data, could be planning to take your custom to provide the same service at a higher cost to you and less revenue to SurfAnytime. Indeed, SurfAnytime have not seen any revenue for the last 5 months.
You will probably be painfully aware of the recent software deployment, which in our minds was unnecessary. This new 'intelligent-dialer' was deployed in order to change you from the old Affinity platform to the new Vital Data platform. We think the best value for our customers is to migrate directly onto our own platform and not that of Vital Data. Unfortunately, this is not a clear migration.
One of our legal rights when Affinity went into administration was to be allowed access to our customers details in order to smoothly migrate them onto our own platform. Two months after Affinity went into administration, we have yet to see this. With that in mind, we are unable to provide you with a seamless transfer from the existing platform to our new platform.
If you decide to migrate to our platform direct, what is essentially required is a cancellation of your current account and a new account setup direct with SAT. We have tried to make this as simple as possible and the signup procedure for our new platform incorporates an automatic cancellation request, direct to Affinity.
Should you decide to remain with Affinity/Vital Data, please be aware of the following.
- You could possibly be paying more for your service, we have indications that you could be paying £14.99 for Silver and £19.99 for Gold
- You may no longer be able to use your @surfanytime.co.uk email address
- You may have to leave the SurfAnytime brand
- You will not get support via SurfAnytime, but with Affinity/Vital Data at premium rate charges
- You may have to use proprietary dialup software
- If Affinity transfer your personal details to Vital Data without your permission, this could be a breach of the Data Protection Act.
We are also aware that you have been experiencing problems with your @surfanytime.co.uk email account. We have already begun to migrate your email from the fading Affinity / Fujitsu platform to our own, this was in direct response to this older platform losing email, time and time again.
Suffice to say that the update goes on to explain the benefits of migrating to SurfAnyTime, not to mention the process for doing so.
It's been clear for awhile that some ISPs were less than pleased with events post Affinity's collapse. A number, which have asked to remain anonymous, feel that they are in a similar position to SAT.
