Anti-virus (AV) firm Sophos has reported that, during the first 6 months of 2003, it detected and protected against 3,855 new online viruses. The figure represents a 17.5% increase over the same period last year:
According to Sophos's latest report, the nastiest virus is Bugbear-B worm - which topped the top ten chart of viruses occurring most frequently in the past six months, followed by Sobig-C and Klez.
Even though it was only first seen in early June, Bugbear-B, related to the older Bugbear-A, accounted for almost 12 per cent of reports to Sophos.
"Bugbear-B entered the frame late, but nevertheless it has generated more enquiries than any other virus in the last six months," said Cluley. It's worth noting that other AV firms, such as MessageLabs, reported that Klez was the nastiest of the bunch. More @
