altoHiway UK Business ISP Reduces Email Headaches with Launch of Unique Managed Service - MailController
altoHiway, the UK based business-only ISP, today launched MailController, a unique managed service protecting businesses from the threat of viruses and spam attacks. MailController, the first of a range of managed security services from altoHiway, sits on the Internet and therefore deals with threats before they can hit an organisations local network. MailController is unique as it can be used to scan POP3 as well as SMTP mail, therefore offering corporate levels of protection to smaller businesses for the first time.
With MailController sitting outside the users network spam and viruses are dealt with at the Internet level and not at an organisations site. This is a key benefit as it leaves the organisations infrastructure clear to handle its daily business without the worry of disruption on its own network.
The anti-spam element included in MailController is the most advanced service available on the market, over 98% effective, which is significantly higher than other leading solutions available. It includes a combination of manual and automated spam analysis including; real time black lists, known spammer lists, over 1,000 Lexical analysis tests, textual content characteristics, header information, Bayesian probability techniques, learnt statistical analysis, Distributed Checksum Clearinghouse (DCC), centralised analysis and customer controlled white and black lists.
Many entry-level anti spam products are nowhere near as accurate and can either fail to stop spam or (even worse) generate high volumes of false positives (genuine email wrongly diagnosed as being spam), which then have to be manually checked and delivered by the customer.
The anti-virus module within MailController combines solutions from Symantec and Kaspersky including both heuristic and content checking, with virus data files updated at regular 15-minute intervals. MailController Anti-Virus is a fully managed service, meaning there is no hardware or software to purchase; customers simply subscribe to the service. Once subscribed a companys Internet e-mail is re-routed through one of altoHiways data centres, where all inbound and outbound e-mail is scanned to detect a virus or spam attack. If a suspicious mail is detected it is automatically quarantined to stop it infecting the customers network.
Chris Wood, Director of Sales and Marketing for altoHiway explains, Before MailController, no product offered the same high level of service to both SMTP and POP3 users. The majority of companies are unable to support POP3 users because they dont have the ISP infrastructure we possess and cannot support, store and forward email using POP3 services that we already provide.
As MailController is offered as a managed service customers dont have the hassle or worry of securing their emails. We ensure all virus data files are updated every 15 minutes and provide control to the reseller or end user via a dedicated web based MailController portal to personalise their security levels and monitor the level of spam and virus email they are receiving.
