Believe it or not, new research from Screen Digest has predicted that the UK will have more homes (12.7 million - 47% growth) connected to broadband by 2008 than its neighbours:
Germany, currently the largest broadband Internet market, will have 12.6 million households and France will have 10.8 million households in 2008, ScreenDigest forecasted.
Rounding out the top five European broadband markets in 2008 is Italy at 7.59 million homes and Spain with 7.58 million homes, ScreenDigest said.
The research firm said each of the Big Five West European nations will experience double-digit growth rates over the next five years, important news for telecommunications and cable operators who are investing heavily in broadband deployment.Surprisingly the UK actually has one of the most 'technologically' competitive broadband markets in the EU, with plenty of different services (cable, satellite etc.) to choose from.
This has helped to drive down prices and is largely the reason why we're predicted to grow faster than most. Despite that, the governments '
most wired G7 nation' aim for 2005 is unlikely to be achieved. More @
