Ofcom, the new communications super-regulator, is to hold a formal investigation into BTs dominance of telephone connections:
The inquiry is to take place early next year, ahead of a review of the whole UK telecoms market, and will examine whether the stalled process of unbundling BTs local connections can be restarted.
A spokesman for Ofcom said: We will want to see whether there is scope for fair and effective competition in this area, and how we can develop the best outcome for consumers.
An unfavourable review would leave BT at risk of having its local network dismembered as rivals slowly take control of its residential lines. We cant help but feel that anybody expecting the results to be radically different from what
Oftel might have concluded, could find themselves let down. More @ The Times newspaper.
